Info
Jussi Hakulinen was one of the most recognizable and moving voices in the Finnish songwriting tradition. He penned many of the band Yö’s most beloved songs—including "Joutsenlaulu" and "Rakkaus on lumivalkoinen"—tracks that have become an enduring part of the Finnish collective memory. A biography titled *Joutsenlaulu – Jussi Hakulisen elämäkerta* (Swan Song – The Biography of Jussi Hakulinen), written by Timo Kalevi Forss and due for release this autumn, shines a light on a songwriter whose classics are known to the entire nation, yet whose own story has often remained in the shadow of his songs.
A concert to be held at Pori’s Kehräämö on October 2, 2026, will celebrate the book’s release and, above all, Jussi Hakulinen’s unique songwriting artistry. The evening will feature fresh, vibrant interpretations of his songs alongside the stories behind them.
The concert’s soloist is Markus Salo, who has previously distinguished himself in performing the music of Yö. He will be accompanied by Mikko Kangasjärvi and Jari Latomaa—familiar figures from the band Yö—who worked with Hakulinen for decades as arrangers and producers of his songs. This offers a unique perspective on the creation of the music, the atmosphere of the songs, and the world from which they emerged.
*Joutsenlaulu – Jussi Hakulisen elämäkerta ja laulut* promises an evening of powerful melodies, memories, and a celebration of Finnish songwriting—a tribute to an artist whose songs continue to live on in the minds of listeners.
